About Us
Why should stylish breastfeeding women be forced to compromise on their look in order to feed their babies? Why should we have to juggle layers of cheap stretchy tops or flash parts of our bodies rarely exposed to the world? Why should we have to think twice about what we can wear to a lunch, a party, a wedding or just to the local park?
This was the sartorial outrage which, as mothers of two each, we set out to address. Peaks of London was born, with Sheena’s years as a costumiere and stylist, and Julie’s as a marketer applied to creating a range of tops and dresses rigorously tested on real breastfeeding women to ensure the range is discreetly functional, wearable and above all, beautiful.
Whether you want to make the most of your new cleavage, suck in a post-baby tummy or flatter an upper arm, there’s something in the range for you. Probably the thing we’re most proud of is that people say ‘what a lovely outfit’, rather than ‘what a lovely breastfeeding top’. Hallelujah to that.
Ethical Approach
An ethical, respectful approach is as important to us in running our business as it is in our daily lives, so whilst there are challenges for start-up companies, wherever possible we are making Peaks of London a British brand and supporting local mills and factories. For example all stretch fabric is woven at a family mill in Leicestershire. When using overseas suppliers we look for the best; our cottons are mostly from the famous Ascher line in New York.
Every item is manufactured in London factories, with good working conditions and wages, and transported on business in our Prius hybrid! We’re keen to ensure that nothing goes to waste, so our packaging is intentionally minimal as we know our customers would prefer not to be throwing out unnecessary paper and card.
We’re not perfect but it’s a start we’re proud of, and we’ll update the site as we progress and grow.
